Planned Digital Story Telling Project

What are your plans for this project?
My plans for the Digital Storytelling Project are to provide background information in story format as a segue into "The Diary of Anne Frank."  Both of the 8th grade teams I work with are going to be starting on this diary shortly so I will be using the project with students as soon as it is completed.  My thought is that by using this type of media, the students will be able to understand how and why it was so important for families like the Frank's to hide out during WWII. Since this is such a serious subject, I have been tentative about my choice but think it would be helpful.  What do you ladies' think?  I am interested in your thoughts and have struggling with narrowing my choices.

  1. Here are some resources you might want to check:

  2. I think students in the middle school should (and can handle) the reality faced by many during WWII. Unlike us, today's children have not grown up with people who lived through WWII. I grew up listening to my Grandfather tell stories of the time he spent overseas serving our country during WWII. Many of our students can speak about the war in Iraq and have family who have served overseas but the reality faced in WWII is much different, in my opinion. I think that your plans with the story of Anne Frank will be a great lesson for students to learn about a serious subject! Good Luck (and prepare your students in advance for the harshness of this topic and see if any can relate with connections to current service members serving overseas)

  3. Mary Ellen,
I don't know much about the Ann Frank Diaries other than it 's about hiding out during WWII. I am sure that you will do a wonderful job helping your students to connect to Ann Frank as she was very young. It will be very hard for them to completely understand with just reading the book. Therefore I think adding the visuals will really help the students to connect with the text.
